Welcome to Cherry Class

Welcome to Cherry Class

Mrs Perry and Mrs Alexander are the teachers in this busy but friendly Reception class. We are lucky to have Mrs Calkin and Mrs Hill helping our children too.

Our class, Cherry Class, is named after the Flowering Cherry trees at the side of our school field and we enjoy watching the trees change through the seasons.

Every school day starts with some settling-in activities and we like the routine of this relaxed start to the day. Our day continues with children choosing some of their activities whilst other activities are teacher led. Children learn both inside and outside, often through purposeful play activities and our topics have included: Transport, Castles, Shops and Markets, Pirates and Treasure. Children make good progress in their learning during their first terms at school.

We like to make the most of our lovely setting here at St Martin's. We take regular Welly Walks into the farmyard and and up the lane opposite school and find many things of interest to develop our understanding of the world there.
Parents are encouraged and welcome to help us in our many class activities, especially walks, trips on the train, a visit to Newbury Market and up the hill to Donnington Castle.
Even though children have joined school from a wide range of local pre-schools and nurseries they quickly settle into their new social group and into school life."
Donnington Castle
The Cherries had a super time at Donnington Castle with a beautiful fresh Spring morning allowing them to make the most of the spot and the views from it. The children have since created their own Cherry Class newspaper with individual comments and photos. Thanks to all the mums who helped with transport.
Chicks in Cherry

The Cherries were delighted to receive a party of chicks last week. They loved watching them and holding them and we composed our own music afterwards, entitled 'Pecking in the farmyard' ?!
