Religious Education

Intent

Our intent statement sets out our vision our children within this subject and what we aim for them to experience through the curriculum at St Martin's.  It links to our school vision and values.
Implementation

RE is taught for at least 5% of curriculum time.  Depending on the topic, this may be a weekly lesson, blocked units of work or a mixture of both.

We have a number of enrichment opportunities from regular visits to our local church and also visitors from the local church and members of the community. We also have celebrations days where we are able to learn in a immersive way about Judaism and take part in a Shabbat meal, Diwali days amongst others. Each year we all take part in Interfaith week were we are able to learn more about not only different religions but the faith of some of their members.

Please find below our:
RE Overview which identifies when each RE unit of work is taught.
RE Skills Progression which identifies the skills taught to each specific year group.
RE Knowledge Progression which identifies the knowledge taught to each specific year group.
Impact

Children enjoy their R.E. lessons, which is evident in subject manager and governor pupil conferencing and our recent SIAMS inspections.

R.E. also has a positive impact on the mental and spiritual development of the children.  Pupil conferencing shows that it allows them the opportunity to explore their own faith, world view and ideas in safe and secure environment. The children benefit from the moral compass that is expressed through religion and they are able to challenge the ideas and opinions of themselves and others, this helps enable them to become well rounded, tolerant and informed individuals.

Children attain well across the school in RE (outcomes at the end of 2022 - 2023):
