We place high value on the attendance of every child for as much of the school year as possible so that children have the opportunity to maximise their learning potential. Please make every effort to bring your child to school every day, happy and ready to learn. We celebrate with all children who are able to attend for a whole term with no absences and especially with those who attend the whole school year without a single absence!
Obviously children will periodically be ill, and when they are too unwell to attend school we expect them to remain at home. Parents should contact the school to advise of illness, preferably by telephone on the first day of any absence and again during prolonged periods.
Parents who are considering taking their child out of school during term time MUST contact the school early and complete a 'Request to authorises absence from school due to exceptional circumstances' in advance. Parents should be aware that they are NOT entitled to take children out of school during term time, and any request for leave must be on the basis of genuine exceptional need. Any leave granted will be at the discretion of the Headteacher, based on guidance from the Local Authority and the Department for Education, and all such leave is discouraged unless there are genuine exceptional circumstances. Parents should be aware that any absence without the prior agreement of the Headteacher will be unauthorised. Unauthorised absence can result in a fine from Hampshire Local Authority - details are available from the school office.
Where attendance causes concern, parents may be requested to attend a meeting with the Headteacher to discuss this in more depth. This will typically be when attendance drops below 90%
