St Martin’s School has a kitchen where staff from award-winning caterers HC3S, prepare school meals for children and staff every day.
At HC3S, the focus is on tasty food to help children flourish. By providing nutritious food, cooked fresh every day and which is responsibly sourced, they give children a balanced diet with choices that aid concentration levels and give them energy to focus and to play.
But HC3S go a step further. They also want children to understand about healthy lifestyles and take this positive message into adulthood. As part of this they provide the school with resources to help teachers educate children using food in a way that cuts across the curriculum.
Where opportunity arises, they bring live cooking and workshops to the classroom and sometimes, out of the classroom, through partnerships with their suppliers and other local food organisations.

Children may bring their own packed lunches from home. We ask parents/carers to ensure that they include items that will help build healthy lifestyles and support concentration and learning throughout the day.
At morning break, fruit and vegetable snacks are provided to children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 via the free fruit and vegetable government scheme. Children in Key Stage 2 may bring in a healthy snack for break time.
All children are encouraged to bring a water bottle into school every day. Bottles can be filled at any classroom tap.
Please be aware that we are a nut-free school. Do not send any nut-based products, including sandwich spreads, into school.
