Goodbye Mrs Wellings

Goodbye Mrs Wellings

Today we have said goodbye to Mrs Wellings who leaves St Martin's after 11 years as a teacher here.  Usually when we say goodbye to a member of staff we all come together in a whole school worship to celebrate their time with us and wish them well for the future.  Unfortunately, this year we were not able to all meet in person, but we did hold a special whole school worship virtually.  Despite a few technical issues (when I arrived at 7:00am we have no internet after a power cut at 4:45am this morning and it took us nearly two hours to sort this!), every class was able to log on, see Mrs Wellings open her presents, watch Mrs Wellings present the school with a leaving gift (a lovely cross for the outside prayer space that the worship team are currently planning) and say a proper goodbye to her.

As many of you know, there is a tradition here that when a long-standing member of staff leaves, Mrs Wellings writes them their own special song, which the school then performs for them.  Obviously, we were not able to ask her to do this for herself, but a group of our Year 6 children, led by our music ambassadors, bravely took on the challenge.  Last week we recorded both classes singing 'She's the Dancing Queen' and were able to play the recording to the whole school virtually this morning.  We are not able to share the video with you as we do not have permission for all children to be on the internet.  However we have made an audio recording of the song so that you can have a listen.  I'm sure you'll agree the children did an amazing job - both writing the song and in singing it - well done to everyone involved!

We'd all like to thank Mrs Wellings for everything she has done during her time at St Martin's and to wish her all the best for the future.
