Residential update: Tuesday AM

2.09am precisely.

That is the time I was awakened for the first time in the night, by distant noise of children. It won't be any of mine, I thought naively, but I'll just walk the floor and check on them now I'm awake. Lo and behold, behind the door of one of the boys' rooms, were three boys playing a card game sat on the bathroom floor 'cos the bathroom is where the light is on'. Honestly. I sent them back to bed quick smartish, and luckily it didn't wake anyone else (including Mrs Greenwood who was next door!). The second time I was woken was a different room of boys, who were just awake and being too loud and whom had forgotten I was in the next room to them- deliberately, of course, as room layout is carefully planned based on a selection criteria which I am not at liberty to divulge. They also got sent back to bed. You'll be pleased to know however that no other adults were awake in the night, so that means all children slept very well!

Getting up was successful in some rooms and not in others. Being cheerful in the morning (approx 6.30 wake up) is not a skill that all your children currently have. Also, I think that most children either had a shower last night, or this morning, however I'm not promising anything for definite. We will check this evening (the children will rat each other out even if anyone tries to tell us they have when they haven't) and will strongly encourage one this evening.

Breakfast was a lovely affair - our slot was 7.15am and we chose from a hot breakfast selection of veggie sausages, bacon, hash browns and beans. There was also a range of cereal, porridge, fruit and yoghurts, and Charlie, our PGL trip leader made a mountain of toast for us. Every child had something hot (although a couple did think it might be table service once they'd had their cereal... LOL). Most also had something extra e.g. porridge or cereal or fruit as well. Everyone ate well again.

Next was room inspection which was of a very high standard - however this time the children were warned, so all rooms got 2 or 3 out of 3 - excellent! It should be noted that ALL girls rooms got a 3, but not all boys rooms. However I saw no pants this morning. An improvement! Next inspection will be unannounced... they don't believe me when I say I have scored 1s, or even 0s, before...

Now all children are off doing either the giant swing or fencing or canoeing this morning so spirits were high as they went off to activities. I will be supplying them with cake in the break - because we have a LOT to get through! The dedicated team of adults and I will of course help and support with this.

Next update this evening once we've wrangled them all to bed!
