Pentathlon competition

4th May 2020
As you are aware St Martin’s subscribes to the West Berks School Sports Association and we thoroughly enjoy participating in all the local sports competitions they organise. Obviously at the moment they are unable to hold their usual sports competition but they have just launched a virtual pentathlon competition for all children in Years 3 – 6.
There has been some debate about whether it is possible to run a virtual competition, given the opportunity for some people to cheat. However, it is hoped that everyone will abide by the values of sport and compete fairly. Our children always impress me with their sense of fair play and sportsmanship and I have no concerns of this being a problem at St Martin’s.
All the details of the virtual pentathlon can be found at:
There is also a teacher’s guide available, should you want any more information, which can be found at:
If your child would like to take part they need to complete the five activities and then you need to email their scores to There is a spreadsheet for scores that you may find helpful to use or if it is easier you can just email your scores in. The spreadsheet, along with the two documents at the links above, can be found on the School Closure Resources section of the school website under PE resources.
Please ensure that we receive all entries by 5:00pm Thursday to allow us time to organise the teams and submit the results.
If this is successful the West Berkshire School Sport Network are looking at running other competitions and extend the initiative it to include younger children.
