Monday night Resi update 2026

Monday night reading update:

'Twas the first night of Resi, and all through the Lodge and Barn,
No peep can be heard, nor story, nor yarn.
The shouts (oh so loud!) diminished into the night,
And even the stubbornest of children went down with little fight.
(IN THE END….)
They’ve played a scavenger game and some sports - how they’ve run.
They ate dinner of cottage pie (or pasta) and choc brownie (so yum!).
A night hike this evening took us out and about,
With activities designed to test senses when out.
After hot choc and chatting, we headed for bed,
Via toilet and teeth brushing, then down they all led.
For the first night... not bad, all asleep by 11...
But the adults, so tired, might tomorrow make it 7!

It's been a good first day. We arrived safely and got quickly settled into our rooms, which is actually two big rooms for boys and same for girls. All children got stuck into activities this afternoon, which was a scavenger hunt to get to know the site, and then a chance to play some garden games like croquet and giant connect four. We then had some extra time to play games in the hall of the barn before dinner. Dinner was cottage pie, but only about half wanted this, so pasta and cheese was enjoyed too. We had chocolate brownie and squirty cream for pudding. Everyone ate well and we've already selected what we are having for both breakfast and lunch tomorrow.

We then went on a night hike, which only one person quietly freaked out about in terms of potentially falling over in the dark (me). We tried to write our names in the dark, got to test our hearing vs the hearing of deer, and our sense of smell vs canine noses! We then tried to star gaze but it was too cloudy so we opted for hot chocolate, then bed time.
It took a while to settle everyone down, but after some organisation and tidying, and then negotiating about amounts of light needed, everyone got ready for bed. I'm actually ok with asleep by 11 for the first night - they will be more tired by tomorrow and certainly by Wednesday night.

Keep everything crossed for us for a quiet night!
