Wednesday evening resi update

Wednesday evening Resi update:

I have many good things to report from today:

- You will be as pleased as I am that, in nothing short of a miracle, only three crisps swaps were needed for everyone to get the packet they wanted at lunch today. The relief is real.

- Another lunch time ‘catastrophe’ as named by one child was also averted - children that had asked for white bread, got half and half, which was a mystery to them and a source of some minor panic, but I explained it tastes like white but has the goodness of brown and they all ate it with no fuss. Phew.

- All children have continued to grow in confidence; roughly translated from teacher talk, this means your children are so settled and comfortable here that they are starting to drive us made with how cheeky and facetious they have become, even (no, particularly) the Y5s. but that’s ok because as of 3pm tomorrow, that becomes your problem, not ours.

- All children have done amazing things in their activities today - eg zip wire, crate stack, climbing in different forms, fencing, catapult making (this bit I am serious about).
- One of my governors Mrs Alfred joined us for the day and she was amazed at our children pushing themselves and supporting each other. This makes up for the cheekiness (mostly) and makes me really proud.

There are 3 things I cannot promise you at this point.

1) The children have half packed and will pack the rest tomorrow morning but I cannot promise it’s all their own stuff or even what’s in there. We’ll do our best in the morning but bearing in mind that one member of staff caught a child eating in their bedroom earlier and when we asked what, they answered ‘left over packed lunch from Monday’, really, expect the worst when you open up the case tomorrow night. I’d suggest preparing yourself with a glass or two first. We intend to do just that before the final pack tomorrow.

2) After hearing a conversation about how often you should change your pants, with some quite intriguing but largely inaccurate answers, well… make your own assumptions as to what I can’t promise you at this point.

3) I also can’t promise you that your children will look the same colour on return. Could be dirt, could be smudged in food, could be soot from the campfire. Who knows? I suggest you try the spit and rub method you all use at the gate on occasion to check first and whichever it is, a shower or bath should fix. I doubt any of it is permanent. Probably.

We had a well-earned and looked-forward-to tea of burger in a roll, sausage, wedges and then smores made on a fire pit fire. Then we moved to the proper campfire and sang songs and rhymes and had lots of general merriment. I’ve attached an audio recording which I was a bit late starting but will give you a glimpse of boom chicka boom in different voices - I reckon you can tell they are all having fun!

And now to sleep. Fingers crossed all children and adults sleep through. Final update in the morning. And then home! We will try to bring them all back but if not we’ll pick our favourites and that’ll have to do. Fingers crossed your child makes the cut.
